After spending a day of cruising on Richard Branson’s new ship, Lady Scarlet, we will dock next at Puerto Plata. Or should I say Plato – dise. The charmingly quaint Dominican city literally rises through the sky. Tucked between the Cordillera Mountains and Atlantic coast, Puerto Plata embodies geographical duality at its best. A day here can include exploring the city streets, vegging out on the snow white beaches of Playa Dorado, or hiking through the jungle to the 27 waterfalls of Damajagua and careening down via natural slides. Or you can jump right in.
Then we will be heading to an all-inclusive private Beach Club on Bimini Island, Bahamas. See-through water and sandy white shores punctuate this geographically poetic port. And like any good haiku, it’s cloaked in seductive mystery. Besides having access to the island’s incredible biodiversity in marine life, boating, snorkeling and even historic shipwreck diving, sailors get exclusive access to The Beach Club — Virgin’s private beach club experience. Peaceful mornings and restorative days or amplified afternoons at the DJ-led pool party —their club is designed to answer whatever your specific mood is calling for. Okay, frankly we’d be wild to build a ship and not have a restaurant with a sun-drenched lounging area so you can combine all the things you love in one place (eating and views, obviously) so yep — we did that. The Dock feels like an elegant cabana caught between the chill, seaside perfection of Ibiza and the rustic-chic resorts of Brazil.

Luckily our Coffee Shop isn’t far, exclusively pouring one of the most satisfying, and tasty brews we’ve ever had, from direct-trade pioneers, Intelligentsia Coffee. All with a featured daily flavor announced from our nearby record shop DJ booth, guaranteed to be unlike anything you might remember seeing at your local home town shop.
A selective beer drinker’s go-to, the Draught Haus features eight seasonal on tap varieties plus a wide range of artisanal bottles. This part British pub, part modern craft brewery inspired taproom, provides plenty of chill eclectic places to sit back and sip, or just grab a growler for those ‘bring your brew with you’, kind of days.
